The Hook Work Shawl is both an art and a craft where shawls are made by pulling loops of wool yarn through a woven base such as wool. The loops are pulled through the backing material by using a crochet-type hook mounted in a handle (usually wood) for leverage. In contrast latch-hooking uses a hinged hook to form a knotted pile from short, pre-cut pieces of yarn. Shawls are so versatile! And they’re the only article of Regency clothing that women can still wear every day. An excellent juxtaposition of fashion, history and literature as well as the versatility of such an accessory which can complement an outfit or enhance it.
